US-based firm BioConsorita, Inc. has moved two new nematicides into its development and registration phase following field trial results in corn and other important food crops, say company officials. The new products control nematode pests and increase crop yields, say BioConsortia officials.

The new products control nematode pests and increase crop yields, as demonstrated by the company's 2021 field trials. According to these, the two new nematicides controlled a range of nematodes at 14 different sites, covering root knot, coarse root, rachis and root lion nematodes, and increased yields by 5 to 8 bushels per acre in corn and 15.8% in wheat, with a 100% success rate.

Plant parasitic nematodes are small roundworms that feed on plants and are very difficult to control. They directly target the roots of major production crops and prevent water and nutrient uptake, which reduces crop yields. Nematodes cause 7-15% yield losses in agricultural crops, amounting to about US$ 157 billion worldwide.

That is why the Californian firm's announcement of the discovery and registration of two highly effective, naturally occurring nematicides generates high expectations for the company.
