Izabela Michalak, Professor of Wroclaw University:
Video: New Tendencies In The Use Of Seaweed Extracts As Biostimulants
Polish academic and researcher Izabela Michalak has specialized in the study of applications for algal biomass. As a professor in the advanced materials technology department at the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, she has developed important know-how on the way the unique properties of these plants, which resist and regenerate quickly in the face of extreme changes in the environment, can contribute to an enormous diversity of essential activities for human life. One of them is agriculture, where algae can play a central role in the stimulation and protection of crops, which she explains in this presentation made at the Biostimulants Congress Latam 2021.

The content of the presentation is divided into the following parts:
- Types and sources of algae
- The characteristics of algae that make them useful in agriculture
- The importance of algae biostimulants for agriculture and methodology for their extraction and application
- Conclusions
1. Types and sources of algae:
The Polish specialist in algal biomass application research presents the main classifications of algae and the places from which they can be obtained to produce useful products for agriculture.
2. The characteristics of algae that make them useful in agriculture
The Polish specialist explains the unique properties of algae, which make them highly resistant plants to environmental changes, thanks to certain properties that are key for stimulating and protecting crops.
3. The importance of algae biostimulants for agriculture and methodology for their extraction and application
With concrete examples, Dr. Izabela Michalak explains the reasons why bioproducts such as algae are being used in agriculture for control, food, and stimulation. These help increase efficiency, tolerance to biotic/abiotic stress, and crop quality. She also explains the extraction and preparation methodology for their use in agriculture.
4. Conclusions
Izabela MIchalak summarizes the main aspects for the use of algal biomass in agriculture.
