Corteva Agriscience signed an agreement to acquire leading biologics company Symborg
Corteva Inc. and Symborg announced that Corteva has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Symborg, an expert in microbiological technologies based in Murcia, Spain. Symborg, respected throughout the biologics industry, already has a diversified portfolio, an emerging portfolio of biological control products and a specialized employee base with strong technical expertise and demand generation experience.
The two firms first collaborated in March of this year to expand and bring Utrisha™ N and BlueN™ nutrient efficiency optimizer to growers as part of a distribution agreement between the two companies. The biostimulant enables plants to fix nitrogen from the air and make it available to the plant, delivering an alternative, supplemental nitrogen source and potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions from fertilizer use.
This transaction is in line with Corteva's goal of building a more differentiated and sustainably advantageous portfolio that provides cost-effective solutions for farmers. The Spanish company will leverage the combined organizations to expand Symborg's current solutions as well as new products under development.
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and, once effective, Symborg's facilities in Murcia, and subsidiaries in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, France, Turkey, China and Australia will become key elements of Corteva's biologics portfolio. Financial terms and conditions of the agreement were not disclosed.
